The Manor House Fairseat - old postcard

Found this old postcard on Ebay, I drive this road often but I think a tree may be growing in the church yard which blocks the view of the house from here now.

War Memorial in Stansted postcard, circa 1923.

New postcard of the War Memorial in Stansted found on Ebay. It said that it is circa 1923. The bank opposite has certainly changed a bit, I don't think that three legged tree is there any more.

Snowed in!

On the evening of 11th March 2013 much snow fell on the Fairseat and Stansted area, with high winds making the drifts the largest I've seen in my 11 years here. Our lane was so full of snow even the snow plough could not get down it as there was nowhere for the snow to be pushed to, so a digger had to come and labouriously remove the snow by dumping it wherever it could. Luckily I managed to photograph some of it before the digger arrived. Enjoy the photos.

Soranks Manor House postcards

Here is a postcard I found on Ebay of Soranks Manor House, it was dated 1907.

This one below (also on Ebay) was sent later in 1912, but it is now named just The Manor House, Fairseat, which must have been a typo.

The Olympic Torch comes to Borough Green

On Friday 20th July 2012 the Olympic Torch went through Borough Green, did you turn out to see it? It was a great event, and the village was packed. Below documents the runners through Borough Green.

You can also see BBC video footage of the whole run through the village here:
here. Fast forward to about 12 noon when the torch is lit in Borough Green.

M C Olley - past resident?

I found this black and white picture on Ebay. The only information provided with it is this:

Ford D Series Tanker, M C Olley Transport Ltd, Fairseat & Rainham

I guess this was taken some time in the '60's, if I were an expert on number plates maybe I could pin it down a bit more.

Perhaps M C Olley was a resident of Fairseat back then?
